Topic: Bridging Research to Practice with A Sense of Purpose – A personal perspective
Assoc Prof Architect Datin Dr Norwina Mohd Nawawi is from the Department of Architecture, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia. She is the current Unit Head for Islamic Architectural Heritage Research Unit (ISArcH), KAED. Norwina is also a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) active in architectural education, international Affairs Committee and Continuing Professional Development committees. She represents PAM as an Executive Member of the Union of International Architect-Public Health Group Work Programme (UIA-PHG), the UIA- Architecture for All-Region IV work-programme and the Committee for Social Responsibility in the Asian Council of Architects (ARCASIA). She is also a member of the Global University Public Health Architecture (GUPHA) and an expert member of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) of the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in promoting modular coordination and IBS through research, practice and teaching. She is the resource person as Accreditation and Validation panel under the Council of Architectural Accreditation Malaysian for Architecture and Interior Design programmes. Her experiences as a public architect in the Public Works Department (PWD/JKR) for 29 years from 1979-2008, includes managing international projects for the Ministry of Health Malaysia. In academia, she authored many papers and books related to her specialisation, research and interest in healthcare, architectural education, architectural heritage and theories such as ‘Standardisation and Customisation of Healthcare Facility Design In Nation Building – Sharing Malaysian Experience’, ‘The Journey of Murabbis In Architecture Pedagogy: The Case of Studio Teaching As Laboratory of Passion And Duty To Future Khalifas of The Built Environment’. In keeping with professional practices, she continues in a consultancy capacity as a health facility planner and architect to the industry.
